For the record, I perused the app store yesterday and saw no less than 30 video players on the market. I doubt if I will be able to go through all of them, the market is wide open now. With the iPhone 5S, I see very little holding back good software developers from pushing the envelope. Who knows, maybe 4k is next :). It's not really free though? You do have to nickel and dime your way through what you want. But in the interest of fairness, I will d/l v1.3 when it comes out with all the bells and whistles and try it out and put out another comparison piece. This is really shaping up to be a great cut-throat endeavor for iOS. The competitors are getting better and better.LDDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10452740596892237379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-790178895685484262.post-23776550521888277782012-07-03T18:46:13.300-07:002012-07-03T18:46:13.300-07:00Saw this one briefly. In that response, the reader felt that the original Apple AV player is the best. Although I agree with many of the points made, I have also had problems with Airplay not working all of the time.

I stand by my recommendations however, having used somewhere in the region of 20 AV players that were on the market. None of the above is perfect, I agree. Thumbnails and some graphical UI interfaces are certainly worth mentioning, but my number one concern has been codecs. I have been using .mkv files without a problem. Unfortunately, I have not been able to do Airplay, but I would imagine that this will be just a matter of time.

Again, I am grateful for the input of my readers and I appreciate your comments.LDDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10452740596892237379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-790178895685484262.post-70574606650438973212011-12-28T20:31:51.604-08:002011-12-28T20:31:51.604-08:00Points well made and I agree with many of them. F...Points well made and I agree with many of them. For me however, it's the codecs and the ability to play them that count. I certainly agree that the implementation could be a lot better in both, but coming from guys in a garage I think that the implementation is quite nice for what it does.

I think that both will improve with time.
Thanks for sharing.LDDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10452740596892237379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-790178895685484262.post-29677258045203969602011-12-27T03:54:22.800-08:002011-12-27T03:54:22.800-08:00Neither OPlayer nor AVPlayer provide thumbnail lis...Neither OPlayer nor AVPlayer provide thumbnail listings, only filenames. Both apps are therefore useless to me, as I regard visual selection to be essential, particularly from an extensive list of videos. A major omission from both apps.

AVPlayer is poorly structured; settings can only be changed on the title screen, so if you are five levels deep into a folder structure and decide to change the settings, you have to press back repeatedly to get all the way back to the title screen to do so, and then navigate your way back down again to continue what you were doing.
